History
The Centro de Estudos de História Religiosa (CEHR - Centre of Religious History Studies) is a research and training unit of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP). Its activity started in 1988, continuing the former Centre of Ecclesiastical History Studies, founded in 1956. Since 2002 the Centre is evaluated by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). The CEHR’s activities are conducted in the field of history of the religious phenomenon.
The CEHR welcomes since 1992 a Working Group on Archives, which seeks to bring together archive professionals, historians and other experts in order to promote training activities, field work, treatment of archives and other initiatives related to both religious institutional archives and personal archives in Portugal.
The CEHR holds several archives and, in June 2015, launched the project PAPIR - Plataforma de Arquivos Pessoais e de Instituições Religiosas (http://portal.cehr.ft.lisboa.ucp.pt/arquivos)".
Geographical and cultural context
The CEHR is integrated into the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) and develops its activity in the academic background. Being based in Lisbon, the Centre is also present, since 2011, in Oporto Regional Centre of UCP.
