Apresentação

PAPIR - Plataforma de Arquivos Pessoais e de Instituições Religiosas is a project held by the CEHR - Centro de Estudos de História Religiosa and launched in June 2015. This is an ongoing project, which at present already gives access to about 20.000 archival description records spread over 25 repositories, and 700 digital objects. We aim at the aggregation of more records and digital objects organized and described under the CEHR or other archival institutions that may join this project.

Based on the concepts of standardized description of historical archives, free access to information and digital humanities, the project aims at using the potential of information and communication technologies, in particular the AtoM software (https://www.accesstomemory.org/), to achieve the enhancement and safeguarding of Portuguese documentary heritage, to improve the cultural use of that heritage, as well as the historical memory and the dissemination of knowledge on a global scale.

The information provided here is freely accessible for viewing and scientific research. However, the reproduction of digital objects must be approved by the institutions holding the archives.

In March 2021 PAPIR joined the Rede Portuguesa de Arquivos, the Portal Português de Arquivos and the Portal Europeu de Arquivos.
