Cartoonista, animador, produtor e diretor de cinema americano nascido em New Rochelle, Nova York. Foi o fundador homónimo do estúdio de animação Walter Lantz Productions (1928-1972). O estúdio ficou inicialmente famoso por continuar a série de filmes Oswald the Lucky Rabbit de 1928 a 1938. Mais tarde, Lantz obteve mais sucesso com séries de filmes animados com Andy Panda (1939-1949), Woody Woodpecker (1941-1972) e o pinguim Chilly Willy (1953-1972).
